Get started
Two ways to use Goodmake. Both are free, with no account.
In your browser
Start now. Nothing to install.
- Paste (⌘V) or drop screenshots in
- Groups, notes and marks; hand off to any AI as a brief and one contact sheet
- Saved in this browser; export everything to a file any time
Keep it handy: in Chrome, ⋮ › Cast, save and share › Install page as app. In Safari, File › Add to Dock.
Mac app
Everything in the browser version, plus:
- ⌘⌃⇧4 captures straight to the Inbox, with Goodmake open or not
- Screen recordings become GIFs you can hand off
- Claude Code reads your selection directly over MCP
One command in Terminal, about a minute. Version 0.2.0.
Set up the Mac app
It runs quietly in the background on your Mac and opens in your browser. Your screenshots stay in a Goodmake folder in your home folder. Already set up? Open it at localhost:4319.
Install
Open Terminal (press ⌘ Space, type Terminal, press Return), paste this and press Return:
curl -fsSL https://this-site/install | bashAbout a minute. It sets up Goodmake with its own copy of Node, starts it, and opens it in your browser. From then on it starts by itself when you log in, so there's nothing to keep open. Read the script.
Turn on capture
In the window that opens, turn on Screenshot to Goodmake. Then press ⌘⌃⇧4 and drag a box anywhere: it lands in your Inbox.
For a Dock icon: in Safari, File › Add to Dock; in Chrome, ⋮ › Cast, save and share › Install page as app.
Connect Claude Code optional
If you use Claude Code, run this once. Then ask it to "use my Goodmake selection" and it reads your notes and images straight from Goodmake.
claude mcp add --transport http -s user goodmake http://localhost:4319/mcpStart a new Claude Code session after adding it. Other MCP clients can connect to http://localhost:4319/mcp.
If something's off
What does the install change on my Mac?
It puts Goodmake and a private copy of Node in ~/Library/Application Support/Goodmake, its log in ~/Library/Logs/Goodmake, and one file in ~/Library/LaunchAgents so it starts when you log in. Your screenshots and groups go in ~/Goodmake. No admin password, and your own Node (if you have one) isn't touched.
"Goodmake is already running in a Terminal window"
You set it up before with the older npx command. Press Ctrl+C in that Terminal window, close it, and run the install again. Your screenshots and groups stay where they are.
⌘⌃⇧4 screenshots don't show up
Check Goodmake is up by opening localhost:4319; if it doesn't load, run the install command again. Screenshot to Goodmake has to be on (the status at the bottom left opens the settings), and capture can't be paused. Paste with ⌘V always works.
A different key than ⌘⌃⇧4
System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Screenshots › "Copy picture of selected area to the clipboard". Pick any key there; Goodmake follows the clipboard, not the key.
Updating
Run the install command again. It replaces Goodmake with the latest version and keeps your screenshots and groups.
Uninstalling
This stops Goodmake, puts your screenshot location back if Goodmake had taken it over, and removes the app. Your screenshots stay in ~/Goodmake until you delete that folder.
curl -fsSL https://this-site/uninstall | bashClaude Desktop instead of Claude Code
Claude Desktop launches its tools itself. Open Claude › Settings › Developer › Edit Config, add this inside "mcpServers", then restart Claude Desktop.
"goodmake": { "command": "/bin/sh", "args": ["-c", "exec \"$HOME/Library/Application Support/Goodmake/runtime/bin/node\" \"$HOME/Library/Application Support/Goodmake/app/node_modules/goodmake/bin/goodmake.js\" mcp"] }Moving between the browser and the Mac app
They keep separate libraries for now. Export from the browser version (the status at the bottom left) keeps everything in one file; importing it into the Mac app is coming.
